Valentine's Day Arts and Crafts

Celebrate Valentine's Day with some delicious breakfast treats! Pour batter into heart-shaped cookie cutters to make tasty pancakes. Add a fun twist, and skewer together sausage slices at an angle. For heart-shaped cupcakes, place a marble in each cup and bake until golden. When done, you can decorate them with icing for a special valentine treat.

Take a pool noodle and cut a V-shape out of the center. Trim the ends at an angle and fasten with duct tape to form a heart-shaped floaty (just joking!). Put in faux flowers for an amazing wreath look. For another option, wrap inexpensive yarn around the noodle along with small cardboard accents, making cozy decor. To make something more fashionable, reshape a wire clothing hanger and cover it with tinsel from the dollar store - cheap but chic!

You can make a sweet flower arrangement with a water bottle, glue dots or tape, candy, and flowers. Secure the water bottle in a larger vase using the glue or tape and then fill in between with the candy. Tell everyone your roses are living off sugar! To help keep the flowers where you want them, use tape to create a grid on top of your vase; even children can be master florists this way.

Soap roses that can clean are really easy to make - all you need is a vegetable peeler and a bar of soap. Use the peeler to shave off layers of the bar, then roll them up - voila! You have beautiful flowers that make great presents. For an awesome window box, take two pieces of cardstock and trace the border on each. Cut out a rectangle in one, fold it along the lines and run it through a laminator. Slit four lines on each corner, slide them together with tape and you've got your perfect gift box!

Why not try a DIY project and use a ballpoint pen to carve designs onto candles? Once you've traced your desired pattern, add some gold paint for an impressive faux engraved decoration that will delight your family. Additionally, if you want to spruce up plastic baggies for homemade Valentines, simply use nail polish remover to remove the labels. We love this version as it can also be used as a fun game of tic-tac-toe or hugs versus kisses.

Trying to come up with a creative activity for your kid? Cut old sponges and dip it in paint, or shape empty toilet paper rolls into heart stamps. Afterwards, take their artwork and create unique Valentine's Day shirts. To do this, slide a pillow case onto a wooden cutting board and lay down the shirt. Next, place the art between two pieces of plastic wrap, then cover with parchment paper. Iron over it all to secure the design. For more washable results try t-shirt transfer paper; perfect for that special day!

For a romantic look, style your hair half up and half down. Take a section from the side and weave it through the upper strands, securing with pins or chip clips. When you have done both sides, join them together at the bottom to form a heart shape.
